"With manual welding, we could only achieve a certain level of quality. The cobot allows us to reach an even higher standard while also reducing welding time with smoother finishes."

– Arie Belo, Director, Belo

""With mass production, maintaining uniform quality is essential, and this cobot delivers exactly that. It's fantastic. On estimate it’s about 1.5 times faster than manual welding.

– Gerben Belo, Production Manager, Belo

BUSINESS CASE

Belo Meer Dan Machinebouw, a Dutch mechanical engineering company with nearly 40 years of experience, sought to strengthen its welding capabilities while addressing workforce challenges. To enhance productivity, quality, and safety in its fabrication processes, Belo invested in the RB-MIG point & click robotic welding system through its long-time partner Lastek.

PROBLEM

The company faced challenges typical of high-mix, precision fabrication:

  • Skilled labor shortage and increasing difficulty in finding qualified welders.

  • Manual welding limitations, leading to slower production and variable quality.

  • Health and safety risks associated with prolonged manual welding tasks.

SOLUTION

After a one-day on-site demo and training session, Belo’s team began operating the RB-MIG system independently.

  • The point & click programming proved highly intuitive, reducing setup time for complex welds.

  • Operators could weld both manually and automatically, including large assemblies requiring multiple passes and manipulation.

  • The RBW system was fully supported by Lastek, ensuring smooth integration and immediate local assistance.

VALUE
  • 50% faster production, enabling more work within the same timeframe.

  • Consistent weld quality, eliminating defects and ensuring repeatability across large parts.

  • Improved operator safety, as welders can step back and monitor from a safe distance.

  • Positive operator adoption, with the system proving accessible and easy to use.
